Chairs

Having dabbled for the last year or so in furniture renovation and upholstery, It came as no surprise that my immediate reaction to my new surroundings was the need to breath life back into a very tired and sorry looking array of chairs propped up around the studios.

I envisioned each chair in it's new glory, keyed, sprayed, re webbed and re - upholstered, of course with fabric I would have designed and printed myself. Then I imagined a whole army of them, newly suited and booted all looking tidy and inviting. Then i'd do the tables as well... they could also do with some work I thought to myself... STOP!!!!!

A few days into this grand masterplan, the practical side of my brain spoke up. I had no staple lifter nor gun, no sandpaper, no paint, no webbing, no foam, and no fabric... the place certainly didn't accommodate this sort of practice without having to source the appropriate tools and materials from nearby Paphos, (and spending a small fortune along the way).  So I made a conscious effort to move away from my desires to repair and redesign and to let these objects be.

Interestingly, the more time I spent in the studios, the more I grew to love these degenerative props. They embodied a certain wisdom and I found myself contemplating their life stories and questioning the scars they bared.
