Alphabets

One of my favourite parts of travelling is being immersed in other languages. I find myself listening intently to the intonation of peoples voices and trying to understand what conversation is going on around me. During my time in Cyprus, I was particularly interested in how two distinctly different alphabets sat side by side - One so familiar, and the other - to me, nothing more than symbols. I spent time familiarising myself visually with the 'Greek' alphabet, and started by buying a Newspaper and copying and researching a new 'symbol' each day.

On a day trip to Nicosia I was drawn to new familiar typographic shapes that popped up throughout the city and these shapes strongly influenced the work I produced back in the studios.
